Continuing Imperialism
Examples of colonialism and imperialism are not lacking in the news, but for one living in a society that practices these tactics on the world (including their own citizens), they can be difficult to recognize. Hopefully, by becoming more aware of examples of such practices, we can begin to see when they are happening around us.
CHURCH AIDS ZAMBIAN GOVERNMENT
We have all heard of Christian organizations striving to aid poverty, especially in Africa, so it should come as no surprise that the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia has now offered to aid the Zambian government to achieve its Millennium Development Goals. According to the church, the government. is failing at its goals, and with God's help, the church thinks it can help.
Of course, the church is offering help in the most deadly way possible: they have offered to build schools. Meanwhile, the church recognizes that the Zambian government has already achieved its goal in primary education.
One must not be surprised, however, as colonialism always goes for the jugular.
POPULATION CONTROL IN ETHIOPIA CONTINUES
The myth that Africa is overpopulated is highly believed, even by some Africans! There have been continuous efforts in Ethiopia for controlling birth rates, and now, with the help of the United Nations Populations Fund (UNFPA) and the Children's Fund (UNICEF), population control measures will continue.
UNFPA and UNICEF are working with Ethiopia's Protection of Basic Service Project. Other partners include DFID, World Bank, Irish Aid and the government
Switzerland. UNFPA has agreed to purchase 11.5 million dollars worth of contraceptives, which will be delivered to youth and women in rural areas, while UNICE has agreed to purchase pharmaceuticals (vaccines, syringes, and anti-malaria equipment), totaling roughly 135 million dollars.
Most Western women will not dare complain about providing contraceptives, as many use prophylactics themselves. But what most people don't realize is that these contraceptives are being delivered to ve men and youth in rural areas - villages. It is in these villages that the African culture and spirituality remains strong...Isn't attempting to control the population in these areas another step in attempting to destroy the culture and spiritual systems themselves?
SPECIAL COWS SENT TO RWANDA
Send-A-Cow is an international non-governmental organization that, well, sends cows to rural areas of Rwanda to help reduce poverty in those areas. Recently 47 cows have been donated to the Rwamagana District in Rwanda. Charles Sebaruma, the Country Director of Send-A-Cow Rwanda, explained that the cows are special cows and need to be taken care of properly. "These cows that you receive today are not ordinary ones.
You should take proper care of them. It is my conviction that the training you received will help you a lot as you rear these cows," he said. What makes these cows so special? They have the ability to produce ten liters of milk every day, which is significantly more than the average Rwandan bovine can produce.
From where are these cows coming?
Sebaruma did not say. How do they produce so much milk? That is not his concern. He is focused on training receivers on how to take care of the special cows. Send-A-Cow hopes to provide many more cows in the future, as it is Rwanda's goal to provide a cow for each household to help reduce poverty.
But what kind of cows are people getting? Are these "special cows" mutants, genetically modified, or pumped full of hormones? Time will tell.
