Doctors vs Healers

The Initiate: Doctors vs Healers

There was a time when, if one would say the word “Healer”, it conjured up images of Witch Doctors, smoked-out Teepees and a barefoot, half-naked person with flowers and herbs hanging around them. That image may actually be a little closer to the truth than today’s fad acceptance of the healer. It seems that anyone who has picked up a homeopathic book, took a Reiki class or has access to the internet wants to claim to be a Healer. Because of all of the manipulation of traditional medicine by the modern world, one must really stop and ask the question, what is a Healer?

The question may be better answered by considering first what is the mission of the healer. The answer to this question varies greatly from what we see in modern medicine today. Doctors treat the symptoms of their patients. They drug them up and keep them numb from their pain. The drugs they give do more harm than good because they kill the body while attempting to kill the disease or relieve the symptoms. So, this shows that today’s medical institutions have no idea what a healer is either. And thus, they too cannot know or understand the mission of the Healer. This may also be why they are called Doctors and not Healers.

The definition of a Doctor, according to the Cambridge Dictionary, (based on the standard English language of the U.S. and U.K. colonial territories) is as follows:

Doctor:

U.S., noun. 1. A person with a medical degree whose job is to treat people who are ill or injured.

U.K., noun. A person with a medical degree whose job is to treat people who are ill or hurt.

U.S. and U.K., verb. 2. To change something in order to deceive people. I.e. He was found to have provided the court with doctored evidence.

U.K. Verb. To secretly put a harmful or poisonous substance into food or drink. I.e. Bottles of lemonade doctored with rat poison were discovered in the kitchen.

Now let’s look at the Definition of Healer

Healer:

U.K. Noun. A person who has the power to cure ill people without using ordinary medicine.

U.S. Noun. A person or thing that heals.

As we see, just by the definitions, the Doctor has no ability to actually cure a person of their illnesses. The Doctor just treats the illness and deceives you into thinking that they are healing you when in fact, they are often only masking symptoms, leaving the real issues unaddressed. The Healer, by definition, has the power to cure a person without using the things that are ordinarily used in the modern medical system. A healer has the ability to use the things that exist in nature to bring about healing. That, in and of itself, is a big difference from the Doctor. So a Healer is someone or something who has the ability to cure someone of illness or injury. This is indicative to the Healer’s goal: to preserve life.

The preservation of life is a heavy statement. Logically, one has to consider what it truly entails to undertake such a tremendous responsibility and goal to become a healer. A Healer must understand how nature works. This includes how things fit into nature, how they all work and affect each other as well as how to maintain the fragile balance so that life can be maintained. This would require, at the very least, a lifetime of learning. To be able to maintain human life, one would have to have an understanding of how to maintain the life of all that has life on this Earth because the human being is not separate from the lives that surround them. We are just one small part of the collective lives that exist and make up this Earth. We are one part of what is seen and unseen and to be a Healer one must have technical knowledge of all of this.

In traditional culture, this information is gained by being passed on for hundreds of thousands of years. Also, the Healers are continually building their quality so that they maintain the purity of the knowledge that they will pass on. The Initiate would be learning very early in their life from other Healers in their family and their community. They would have to exhibit the qualities of a Healer in their own lives before taking the lives of others into their own hands. In other words, to be a Healer of other individuals one must first do the work for themselves, have the technical knowledge of how nature and the human body work, and understand the spiritual components to bring balance and order for themselves and others. One can see why this would take a lifetime of learning that is traditionally passed on from generation to generation.

So, we see there is considerably more that comes with being a Healer. Unlike being a doctor, you are actually learning what is necessary to preserve life. The Healer gains the technical knowledge to actually cure illness and all the aspects to maintain the balance needed for life. In this modern culture, full of disease, imbalance and excess we need to re-examine the role of Doctors and really think about what they do in regards to treating illness. Isn’t it time to reconsider what it means to be a Healer vs. a Doctor and how the Healer, being a preserver of life, can help bring the world back from the path of destruction?
