In these bleak and uncertain times, humanity has found itself faced with a dilemma to which no feasible solution seems forthcoming. All areas of social activity, as well as viable natural resources, are either at risk or severely compromised. Humanity at large is standing at the edge of a precipice that symbolizes its eminent fall into abject barbarism. We’ve managed to discover more ways to destroy ourselves than could be imagined only a hundred years ago. What is worse is that we’ve managed to call those discoveries, “progress”. The individual is without identity or purpose, families are all but extinct, and as a result, society rots in a cesspool of decadence and debauchery.
It is in this climate, given the momentum that this situation of desperation has been gaining, that the Maakheru, our Prophet of the traditions, Naba Lamoussa Morodenibig, emerged to do his work. And what a tremendous work it is!
For us, this is an unprecedented opportunity, it is a gift of light in an otherwise dark and endless tunnel of misery. Transmitted through the recent epochs, where there has been scarcely a point that we can remember there wasn’t some war, some strife, or some conflict, our Prophet’s work represents a lifeline and a new lease on humanity’s collective recovery. Through him, our Ancestors have indeed bequeathed to us a treasure trove of time-tested knowledge and wisdom, craftily secreted down through the ages like hidden pearls of truth, set to save it’s exiled heirs from the depth of ignominy. If to give a person a fish is to bind that person to be enslaved by their physical survival needs, then to teach a person to fish can be equated to setting that person free from those that seek to exploit their ignorance.
Today, we can perhaps consider ourselves very fortunate to be afforded such access to the shade of the mighty tree of humanity’s original culture. The work of the beloved and revered Prophet of the traditions and the many who have fought valiantly to preserve and perpetuate humanity’s civilizing culture, has blossomed and borne fruit. It is in the shade of this now blossoming tree that we can find a respite from our bondage in the form of redemptive survival tools necessary to wash clean the insult and indignity that stain our Ancestral legacy. If the future of any being is rooted in its past, and that past is built upon each moment of the present, then chances are that we as a human collective still have the opportunity to build a future worthy of pride.The seeds that can be found in the heart of the fruit borne by this mighty tree is what our future is banking on.
The Prophet has brought out to the world humanity’s original language, meditative practice, and healing tradition that has been the template for all subsequent practice observed or utilized in our world today. Proof of the effectiveness of this culture and its civilizing qualities, can not only be found in the obvious fact that we are witnessing a cultural and spiritual renaissance born of its enduring quality, but also in the fact that the societies in which they were so carefully preserved are still intact to this day in the face of colonialism’s onslaught.
Some have witnessed the living tradition in cities, towns, and villages where there are healers and priests, elders and chiefs, who stand under the spiritual authority of Kings supported by the Divine World. Here the society even follows a similar structure as was utilized in the Pharaonic period, which creates a stability we can attribute to this fact. Indeed it is also this stabilizing structure that we find permeating the body of the Maakheru’s work, especially within the branch known as M’TAM, which is focused on initiatic education for those who wish to reclaim our traditional culture, philosophy, and spirituality.
Indigenous Alliances between Meritah (Africa) and Maanu (Americas):
Along those lines, M’TAM as a traditional initiatic school sent out by the indigenous wisdom keepers of Meritah, has made great strides in its outreach efforts to reconnect with indigenous cultures abroad. It may come as a surprise that this outreach is simply a rekindling of age old ties between Kemetic culture in Meritah and those of its numerous offshoots globally. In this respect, we have been involved in Unification meetings and projects with a number of tribal groups throughout the world. This includes the territory of Maanu as well and infact, tribal nations here are some of the groups we are most active with. Nations such as the Yaqui, the Mamos of Colombia’s Mountains of Sierra Nevada (incorrectly called Kogi) and Hopi of South West Maanu are among the most prominent groups we are working with. Our relationship with them is, in part, as a result of the ties cultivated by our schools in Western Maanu, and spearheaded specifically by our initiates there. Consequently, we have had the honor of being hosted by one of Maanu’s preeminent healers and men of knowledge, renowned throughout the region, in the person of the Yaqui elder Tata Kachora. In one account of M’TAM students’ conversations with this Elder it is said that he quizzed the group asking, ‘What is the most important thing a human being should do in this life?’ Students replied in concert, ‘Prepare for death...’ He was affirmingly pleased with the reply. The Earth Center’s alliance and visitation with him, as well as some of the traditional events held in the region where he lives is ongoing. So, even posthumously, Maakheru’s message and respect for diversity has been able to create a space for alliances with others whose goal of preservation of life is the same.
Further Outreach and Humanity’s Renaissance
Initiatic societies such as the Donso (Society of Traditional Hunters) whose sacred initiations gave rise to legendary figures such as His Majesty Sunjata Keita; as well as the Pontif of Vodoun and his wife the High Priestess of Vodoun traditions, to name a couple, have been instrumental to this effort. Infact, His eminence, The Pontif of Vodoun, presides over the annual observances at “The Door of No Return” in support of this renaissance, as more and more of the descendants of those forcibly torn away through this infamous door, indeed defiantly return.
One of Maakheru’s most memorable statements to his disciples was, “It’s the writers who will change the world.” No better example of this can be illustrated other than the continued publication of the magazine in which these words are being read. The Rising Firefly and the Sunnyside publications are the flagship periodicals in which these writers’ works can be found. It is the writers, who Maakheru would encourage to continue to excavate within the citadel of knowledge to which he and our Ancestors have granted access in an act that is congruent with the character of humanity’s first Maakheru and Ancestral Deity, Um Nefer Kersheta WSR. In this era, with the relative ease of access to information via the internet, the world has been made smaller in some respect. It is the writers and publishing branch known as Firefly productions, who work on expanding and refining The Earth Center’s Web presence, now offering online versions of these groundbreaking periodicals. They continue to unpack and share vital bits of this knowledge so that readers and seekers the world over can draw on the boundless yet carefully guarded resource. This invaluable resource stands as a stronghold of truth from whence humanity’s guiding light glimmers like gold ingots in a shadowy cave and is perhaps the only wealth that can be shared with anyone that seeks it and never diminish itself.
Study groups, Caribbean and UK tours
It is in the spirit of the seeker then, being drawn to the flame of illumination, that some have chosen to start study groups in their communities. They are collaborating with brothers and sisters of like mind, with the goal of perhaps even starting a school in their location. The age old tradition of Kemetic temples, sending forth teachers who blaze the path to enlightenment in the far flung reaches of the world, is evident through the unmistakable similarities underlying most cultures. So too, the work of the Maakheru has been left to his disciples to continue to sow and cultivate the seeds of humanity’s original civilization by dispersing them far and wide into conditions that prove themselves to be favorable. Maakheru’s disciples’ commitment to his legacy and to honoring this tradition, has now lead them to reconnect with seekers in South America, in territories such as Colombia and Guyana, and Islands of the West Indies, as far south as Trinidad and Tobago. Similarly, aspirants’ strong interest has resulted in the opening of initiatic schools in the United Kingdom where Kemetic Priests once ventured to lend their assistance with the construction of Stonehenge. Indeed, the need for enlightenment, spiritual work and addressing issues at temples and holy sites, took the Prophet to many territories outside of Meritah. The precedent for this type of work is not unknown to the world and in fact the result of these traditional outreach efforts can even be recognized in today’s religious and Royal foundations in various territories worldwide. Kemetic Priest like Abu (Buddha) in India, Issa (aspects of whose life’s work were copied and ascribed to Jesus), the Priest of Imin in Greece, and even Royal bloodlines that founded dynasties of China, like the Shang Dynasty, or the ones that were being requested for a long time from European territories; can all be seen as setting and following this precedent through the ages. So perhaps it was one such delegation of Kemetic Priests, operating under the auspices of these efforts, that gifted the spiritual technology needed to construct the modern-day enigma of Stonehenge. This and other similarly designed structures are still being discovered on continents and territories much further afield. Such was the reach of Kemet’s light.
Spiritual Work, Healing and Projects in Meritah
Fortifying and protecting the sciences of traditional practices continentally, for those working to return to Ancestral culture, spirituality, healing, farming and way of life in general, was a part of the vision of the Maakheru and came under the designation of “Projects in Meritah”. Since his transition, aspects of these projects have been started and continue to gain momentum.
Today, persons seeking spiritual assistance as well as those in need of healing, can find healers at various Earth Center locations. However, as a result of the growing Projects in Meritah initiatives, individuals can get more hands-on specialized care by traditional healers of Ankhkasta, at the Healing Center in Meritah (Het Aishat). Ankhasta is the healing branch of The Earth Center, which is an organization of 10,000 healers with over 40,000 years of traditional healing wisdom. There are also services related to the natural stages of life that have recently been established, in light of the necessity for traditional communities and those wishing to reclaim their heritage, to take responsibility for their needs. For example, The Earth Center has purchased and demarcated land and equipment to bury those from the traditions who transition and would normally have to deal with the colonial government and religious groups in order to be buried. In Maanu, the legal work has been done to make available the necessary paperwork to designate The Earth Center to handle the disposition of one’s remains, if they wish. Additionally there are farming projects that have been underway for some time, where traditional farming techniques are utilized to produce what the growing Kem community needs and much more.
Aside from these aspects that represent budding leaves on the many branches of this tree of spiritual rejuvenation, there has been growing partnership between the diaspora and those from traditional culture. Our contact and cooperation with the traditional villages, elders, ministers and Kingship of the bloodlines representing the great repository of sacred knowledge, has afforded us unique access to Ancestral lands and the opportunity to collaborate in developing sustainable community together. Through the vital bridge that the Maakheru’s life’s work has built between traditional Kemetic culture and that of her diasporic descendants, those who feel compelled to shake loose the shackles of colonialism, can seize the chance to come home. We can come home to our identity as we receive the wake up call of the Truth Teller/Maakheru and embrace our Ancestral values or, we are welcome to go a step further and even return our blood to the land of our Ancestors.
Realistically, many may only be able to gain some small moments of reprieve from the relentless exploitation of the colonial system. However, the Maakheru would emphasize that any step toward reclaiming one’s dignity and identity is a step in the right direction. The road ahead is steep but where else does an intelligent being, bent on survival, have to go? Maybe some will work at sowing seeds, preparing the way for them to sprout in the aftermath of our struggle and toil. Perhaps others will be lucky enough to rise with the resplendent shimmer of dawn and see the dew soaked leaves shine like jewels in the underbrush of our own bountiful orchards, catching the sun’s first breath of light. Either way, we are on the path that is paved with the sweat and virtue of every enlightened being that ever was, and wherever we may find ourselves on this uphill journey, is a mark toward our effort to recover the rightful name of our forebears.
May the flame of goodness and truth burn bright and may we bathe in the full spectrum of its radiance. And though we know that no one can escape their own shadow, may we stand so proudly in the light, that the shadow is ever under foot. Em-ren Maakheru!
