Spiritual Sickness

Harmonious Healing: Spiritual Sickness

The human being is deep. The human heart is deeper than the darkness. The same way that you cannot see the bottom of the darkness, you cannot see the bottom of the human heart.

 - Tem Ancestral Wisdom

The nature of the human being has presented an enigma to the modern scientific and philosophical system for the past millennia. Scientifically, the human being has been compartmentalised into systems, organs, cells, and even atoms. Philosophically, the authorities of Greek culture and its modern derivatives have determined that we are a tripartite made of a soul, mind, and body. We observe the failure to reconcile the contradictions between Western philosophy and science. Science seems to have won the rights to our collective lives in the modern system because it relies only upon what can be proven, either by the natural eye or the manufactured machine. What it cannot explain, it gave up its attempts to understand or solve and instead stuck its head in the sand like the ostrich who ignores what it doesn’t want to face.

If we take our courage in our hands and admit that before we surrendered to our intellectual frustrations it didn’t take a lot of effort to know that beyond what we could see, the human being was made of a portion or portions that we were unable to see. One cannot visually see a difference between the resting human body that is coursing with life and the one whose internal, animating energy has expired. In the modern school of medicine, this brings us to an alarming dilemma.

In our Harmonious Healing column of The Rising Firefly Magazine, we have stuck to topics that were agreed upon by the Western Medical system for a general consensus and opportunity to share ideas on a common page. Though we have introduced spiritual notions and contributors in our Kemetic Healing or other Natural Healing traditions, we generally have let the common understanding guide our investigation.

In this issue, we will open our discussion in the schools of Kemet, with illnesses that are not recognised by medical systems that refuse the existence of what they cannot see, monitor or prove. If the human being has an invisible aspect that diverse philosophers have fed pages and pages to explaining and understanding, then what does this invisible part or parts play in our health?

According to the Kemetic medical tradition, there are various spiritual sicknesses that affect our health and lives, which for the most part are going misunderstood and untreated in the West, because we have relied only on the physical dimensions of approaching our existence. There is a wide range of spiritual sicknesses that can appear as common illnesses with which we are familiar and there are some which carry a more elusive appearance. Symptoms can appear on the body, in the mind or in the environment or life of the person ailed. Any illness that has its source beyond the physical body is indeed a spiritual sickness, even if its effects or expression is in large part physical. There are a few examples that we will focus on for this introductory article. However, we will give full articles to some of the more common spiritual illnesses that are affecting our communities at large.

In addition to the physical, natural world around us (bacteria, viruses, weather conditions, and waste accumulation), illnesses can come from aspects of our lives or even the lives of those who have given us life, which we cannot physically perceive.

ANCESTRAL LEGACY

Life for each individual is made up of many aspects to which we often don’t give proper attention or consideration. The life of each individual has come from the union of his/her parents and for each one of those parents, it was the same. Therefore, each parent represents a long line of lives that have experienced life on Earth, the natural world and the spiritual pursuit of Divine qualities. Each life has acquired knowledge and proven wisdom, some much more than others if they had the opportunity to benefit from the accumulated knowledge of those who came before them. As each family has made its place in the world, it has created a legacy containing the gifts, talents, and medicine it brings to the community. Each child is predisposed to fitting into this legacy whether knowingly or unknowingly, as it is his/ her heritage and the consequence/retribution of the efforts of his// her forefathers.

Though each line has a unique legacy, and none can be seen as more important than another, there are some families whose ancestry have invested a lot of time, effort and ceremonies into the spiritual dimensions of reality. When a child of such a line is living a destiny that doesn’t match the one set by his/her Ancestors, a spiritual sickness can consequently occur.

This type of illness is often referred to as a priest/healer’s illness because it is often what awakens an individual to being called to his/ her life’s purpose on the path of their Ancestors. It physically stops the person and forces him/her to look for a solution to their ailments which lie only within the unseen world.

ANCESTRAL DEBT

The same way the qualities and strengths of our Ancestors can affect our lives and health is the same way that their shortcomings or oversights may also. If an Ancestor had a spiritual debt to a being in nature whether Divinity, Deity, Genie, Spirit or Jengili, that unpaid debt will follow the blood of that Ancestor wherever it is in the living world. It is the living human being that can affect energy enough to give the necessary offerings and do the necessary ceremonies for unseen beings that maintain our existence.

Spirituality is a complex system of principles, recipes, and instructions on how to manipulate energy to cross dimensions between the seen and unseen worlds, and between the world of the living and the world of the dead. Before the modern era of denying the complexity of the existence, our forefathers and mothers invested a lot of time and energy into maintaining the energies of the natural world that in turn maintained us.

Over time, as relationships are built up between families and spiritual entities that aren’t subject to dimensions of time and space as we are, there can be debts that exist that an Ancestor was not able to pay or that an Ancestor’s children weren’t able to pay before they lost their chance with their place in the world of the living. Consequently, that spiritual entity will put disorder in the life of the descendants of that family in order to call for the payment of the debt owed to it.

SPIRITUAL DISTURBANCE

Contrary to the hysteria and the manufactured reality that Hollywood’s horror movies have put us in, disturbances by spiritual entities are quite common and its effects are things we or our loved ones may have experienced, or are currently experiencing. Just as our societies are made up of other individuals who are favourable to our development and the acquisition of our goals, there are also those who are antagonistic to our energies and aspirations. It should not be a surprise that spirits that exist beyond our perception can also be categorised similarly. However, we should be clear that this categorisation is based on our interaction only and lose the idea that there are good or bad spirits but instead question whether are they good (supportive) or bad (antagonistic) to our life and progress.

A spirit that is itself stuck and unable to progress in the becoming of existence can try to benefit from the good energies that a living individual may possess. That spirit may want to absorb those good energies for itself. There are some common illnesses that result from this interaction, which can often be observed through sexual dreams. Experiencing certain types of sexual dreams can be your own spirit perceiving other spirits that are coming to it, in order to benefit or feed on its energies. In the dream, the person may appear as a familiar person or a stranger. The consequences of this interaction can be any one or multiple of the following:

Fibroids: When a sexual activity has occurred between a living woman and an aggressive spirit, spiritually the woman can even be impregnated. At this point, she may even see and experience the baby in her dreams but physically there can be a growth inside the womb. This is a form of fibroids that have a more physical source. In this case, one will have to have ceremonies done to chase the spirit away and herbs to bring the growth out of the womb almost in the form of giving birth to the fibroid.

Impotency: When a sexual activity has occurred between a living man and an aggressive spirit, the man will physically be erect at night while his spirit is in the act of sex. This can happen multiple times per night over a long period of time if the spirit is not chased away. After a while, the physical body doesn’t have the energy it takes to sustain an erection during the day. Physically this will only appear as a situation of sexual weakness.

These are just a few examples to introduce the reader to some of the spiritual realities that we exist in daily. No problem has ever been solved by ignoring it, however, the leaders of the modern world want our respect while they hold onto a system that at its foundation denies the larger part of our existence. A larger part that our Ancestors have been investigating and navigating for generations and generations in the legacy of the Kemetic Spiritual schools.

May I remind the reader that the architects of our current era, the philosophers of Ancient Greece were dropouts or flunkies of the Kemetic Initiatic Schools of Philosophy and Spirituality? The Kem understanding of the human being is much more complete. It is void of the superstitions that result when we run away from an imposing reality towards one that we can better control. It is important that the reader be able to differentiate modern faith healing based on superstitions or beliefs from limited healing based on fixation on the mental and physical nature of the human being. But, both should be understood as inferior to the refined healing of the Kemetic temples which is based on the techniques and traditions of researchers investigating the multi-dimensional realities of existence and how the human is affected. This pursuit came far before modern medicine which disassociated itself with healing altogether to pursue monetary profit and political power.

Around the time of that split, what became the modern system of medicine was itself starting to fragment. There were doctors who used medicines to influence the internal environment of the body towards good health and surgeons who used tools to open the body for the same aim. These two factions feuded and the doctors said that surgeons were not medicine because real medical knowledge should avoid opening the body, having to do so only proved a lack of knowledge of how the body works and what chemicals could be used to influence it.

Now consider that in the Kemetic temples and healing centers, men and women have been influencing the body with herbs but also with herbal mixtures and other natural recipes that often, in the case of sicknesses with a spiritual source don’t even have to be applied in or even on the body but can even be done remotely from inside the temple, no matter where the client may be.
