Humanity’s Weakness
THE GREATEST THREAT to humanity, from the very beginning of our existence, still remains the human being himself/ herself. We are born into a world full of complexities and enigmas which may require us to complete countless cycles of reincarnations before we can gain just a basic understanding of the true face of existence. A human being, regardless of how intelligent, strong or spiritual he thinks he might be, can never avoid revealing hypocrisy or contradictions to others who are observing his behaviour. These behaviours are weaknesses found within every human being without exception. All we can attempt to do is limit the effects of our hypocrisy on our surroundings, although it will still be present in our thoughts.
A couple of scenarios come to mind that can guarantee that a human being will never be seen as hypocritical or contradictory. In the first scenario, a human being's actions and words are all based on universal truth, meaning that the individual has reached the level of ultimate enlightenment, where the person has fully realised the true face of the existence. Such a person has learnt all that was meant for a human being to learn in his attempt to perfect his humanness. If one has attained such a state, it would literally be impossible for him to express hypocrisy because there would be no conflict among one's ideas or thoughts. He/she knows what is and what is not. There is no room for debate, theories or speculations. Now, any state of being that falls short of this plateau indicates that the individual is still in the process of learning, which will always leave room for conflict within his ideas and thoughts. This conflict ultimately leads to change on some level, and a change of ideas and thoughts (behaviour) can carry the stamp of hypocrisy, depending on how the individual is observed by his surroundings and how those same surroundings are affected by his transformation.
Another scenario that can be presented as a way for a human to avoid falling into a state of hypocrisy is based more on the reality of the individual than on the reality of the existence. It can start by the individual convincing himself that there are no other truths outside those he has been exposed to. This approach also leaves no room for conflicting ideas or thoughts. The individual in this scenario can then create his own small island to isolate himself/herself from all of those who do not hold his truths above their own. This scenario is actually very common within the world community. One notable reason why many people choose this scenario is that it is "safe", which means the individual runs little to no risk of being seen as a hypocrite because it leaves the individual no space inside of themselves for anything different. Their speech will always be the same. Their actions will always be the same. Even if it is just to protect themselves from being exposed as hypocrites! But even for these individuals, there still is no escape because their thoughts offer them a daily reminder of their own hypocrisy, which they will always keep to themselves.
I am unaware of any human being who is not in a continuous cycle of life that presents to him/her the opportunity to grow and develop with the goal of one day attaining perfection and reaching the level of knowing reality as it really is and not as how he/she projects it to be based on his/her exposure to it. If learning something new, developing new concepts, or accepting a paradigm shift requires a change in your words and actions, then how is it possible that we will ever avoid appearing as hypocritical or contradictory to those on whom we had so passionately imposed our truths?
Hypocrisy can serve us in a useful way only if we grow as a direct result of some lesson we learn from it. If not, it has no other purpose than to lock humanity into a power game with each other, where the winner is decided by the majority in number. The only element that is needed to shift this balance of power is a reason that is appealing to the majority. Yes, hypocrisy also comes with its reasons and agendas.
Whether they are hidden or not is beside the point; the fact is that such reasons and agendas are ever present because a human does nothing without first having a reason for doing it.
It now remains the sole responsibility of each individual to discern how much or how little he/she will allow himself/herself to be affected by his own hypocrisy and the hypocrisy of others. This is truly a human dilemma that we all must acknowledge as one of the many elephants in the room that we occupy at every moment.
