Exposing Imperialism & Destroying Cultural Symbols
In this issue we will focus our attention on Imperialism. We seek to bring your attention to the results of Imperialism and foster a better understanding of these results. The key to this understanding is for us to recognize that what most of us reading this article know, was taught to us by an Imperial society. Imperial is a term that is used to describe something related to an empire, emperor, or the concept of Imperialism. The root word is imperium, or command. Historically, imperial societies were under the command of the emperor and since then, have gained independence. Again, it is key to recognize that after independence the society is structured in the model of the imperial one and not its traditional predecessor.
The most successful method of spreading imperial culture has been a twofold approach of political warfare and religious missionary work. This provides imperialists a presence among indigenous cultures. If we consider our global state of affairs as the result of the dominance of imperial culture it is obvious that this is a culture of destruction, no matter how well meaning this culture claims to be. These people believe this culture to be part of their identity to a greater or lesser degree and are in denial about their role in the destruction.
This situation is exploited by profitcers who seek to sell any and everything to people willing to believe (and hence buy) any and everything. The key here is understanding that without our traditional perspective, values and culture, we know only what they tell us. This is why ancient history is such a mystery that only specialized interpreters can explain it. Despite their intentions of keeping what is genuinely important to the human race from permeating back into the collective conscious, if we use our intellect, it is obvious. If we consider what has been left behind from ancient times we conclude, from the example of the Pyramids, that the afterlife is of great importance. Yet the reasons for its importance, and the relationship of our lives and how we live them, to the afterlife, in the modern world are based on doctrines that treat such monuments as irrelevant.
The reason that participants within the imperial culture choose to accept this culture is individual. But, the root of this acceptance is the result of the absence of traditional cultures, and one phrase, - lack of quality. If we retur to the example of the Pyramids, and consider that posthumous monuments are still built based on the quality of an individuals' life lived, the conclusion that the quality of how we live our lives is related to what we experience in the afterlife makes sense. Since this is echoed by religions within the imperial culture, why aren't the Pyramids and traditional culture in general regarded as our supreme authority? The answer is because traditional culture and genuine spirituality doesn't support imperial culture, as modern religions do. This is why imperial culture has advanced around the globe alongside modern religions.
Early in its advance, imperial culture was led by modern religious missionary work. This is well documented, memorialized and celebrated, as indigenous cultures and their people were eradicated, enslaved and demonized. The choice back then was convert or die. Well, as much as things change they stay the same. Our choice today is work or die, work for them that is. It is increasingly diffulcult for traditional cultures to remain intact with the more rapid spread of imperial culture and its environmental degradation. The key here is to remember and understand the value of a quality life. This will help to assure that the results of imperial culture as evidenced by all, show the lack of quality of its culture.
Published and found online recently in the major news outlets is a report from Orango Island, located off the coast of Guinea-Bissau, West Africa. The article quotes elders from the isle recalling when they made their decision to marry. Only in this matrilineal culture the women choose their husband. An elder explains "Love comes first to the heart of the women, once in the heart of the women, only then can it jump into the man". The young women choose a husband by preparing a meal of fish in palm oil, an ancient recipe, the article states. If the man eats, he agrees to the marriage. When a house is then constructed of clay brick and woven grass by the women, the marriage is official.
With the encroachment of imperial culture, namely, local plantations and local missionaries, men are returning to the island to chase women and women are beginning to marry in churches. It is stated by the elders that the divorce rate is now an issue on the island. As we all have seen, the breakdown of the family leads to great societal problems. The key here is understanding that the impression given by modern culture is one of quality, but it is just that. When a young man goes to work at the plantation for a few weeks and can then afford a wristwatch, the impression he gives is that he knows what time it is. In fact, he is only learning when it is time to go back to work.
When a young women is taught to expect a man's courtship, white dresses and a lifetime of financial support, she is expecting him to enter slavery for her. He will need that wristwatch. In this new culture, their livelihood is dependent on his job. This job separates him from her, him from the children, them from their culture and results in a destructive society with institutions that show no regard for you. The result of modern imperial society is a global lack of quality. There is no doubt that poor quality results in a short lifespan. And as we have genuine examples of the highest quality, the Pyramids, which show the connection between our life and afterlife, how could we choose anything other than a life of quality?
The answer, again, is through ignorance that modern imperial culture spreads through religion and political warfare. The attacks on the symbols of traditional culture are continuous and subversive. They are done through imperial institutions like schools, science foundations and news corporations. Artifacts end up in museum displays as we are told these mysteries are profound but irrelevant. Yet their presence in these museums convey the nature of imperial society, that it is in command. And as those participants of imperial society are encouraged to feel that they too are in command. Again, this is only an impression, because it is a fact that no culture in known history, pre or ancient, has allowed less than three percent of the population to provide food for the other ninety-seven percent.
