A New Generation of Kem in New York
It is often said that, "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a step". This allegorical first step was taken when several individuals began their journey in the M'Tam School of Philosophy and Spirituality in New York. From their decision to embark on this spiritual journey, these students remained steadfast in the quest for attunement with their ancestors, the Divine World and Kemetic culture. This arduous journey was celebrated in the graduation of the Kamenthu generation. These students will be seen as trailblazers as they have begun the reclamation of Kemetic culture, and the challenge of bringing this knowledge to the world. It was just three years ago that the first class graduated outside of Merita, in Chicago, Illinois. This current graduating generation consists of 8 students from New York, who have all completed the Ist portion of the Per Ankh level of Medu (The oldest language known to humanity). Their instructor, Bikbaye Inejnema, is from the first generation to graduate in Chicago. The education is designed to put "human" back in humanity; developing and creating quality individuals to reclaim the world that we have declared we want to see and exist within. Though it seems new to those in the U.S., the education doesn't bring a new paradigm to what's known as the Western World. However, it reintroduces the cultural and spiritual values of our ancestors from Merita. The relevance of this education cannot be understated as it brings us back to understanding our place in relation to the Divine World, our ancestors and the universe.
Several friends, family and community members from all over the New York area came and participated in the joyous event, all ready to welcome the initiates, In addition, there were seven students representing four different generations from Chicago that came to be a part of this festive event. Bikbaye expressed appreciation and honor towards the students as he recalled their development during the completion of the first level of the education process. He was most proud about the growth the students made with their work ethic, determination and personal growth. He also informed the public about the Ablution process they were witnessing and its necessity to be used daily. His speech expressed the relevance of learning Medu as well as the history that is being written by the introduction of this first class to the world in New York. He introduced the new initiates to the community with their new names. Master Naba Lamoussa Morodenibig, founder of The Earth Center and a Kemetic High Priest, did the readings that gave their new names to them. While the names may not be pleasing to the untrained, the new names bear a divine purpose. Their new names define their personalities and attributes and link them with Deities; they also re-integrate them with Kemetic culture. The new names of the graduating class are: The new names of the graduating class are: Hapi, Bouankhi, Nekhitem, Boubaasti, Satneith, Bounubti, Ouzerba and Bouimin. All of the students received the last name Kamenthu, which links them together as brother and sister within their generation. Kamenthu literally means "The Fixer" or "Stablizer", which defines their purpose and sets their identity for their future growth. Once their graduation was complete, each student was able to express their gratitude to Master Naba and their instructor for guiding them through one of the most challenging events in their life. Some initiates were brought to tears when they thought about the level of growth they have experienced since becoming member of The Earth Center. This graduating class joins hundreds of thousands of people throughout the Kemetic Diaspora who have now been initiated into the first level of education.
The graduation represents several things for The Earth Center. A successful class that culminated with the presentation of the Kamenthu generation, it also details that the necessity for Kemetic knowledge and culture is spreading throughout the United States.
The need to reclaim the knowledge of our ancestors is burgeoning and people are finally answering the call. Wisdom that was thought to be ancient or never to be found again is resurfacing all over the world. The guiding light of this knowledge is The Earth Center. As the knowledge spreads, the education and opportunity for growth continues. While the students who have just completed their first level of education continue their journey in understanding Kemetic culture and spirituality.
