The Wisdom of the Ancients
The process of Kheper (BECOMING), as taught by my Spiritual Master Naba Lamoussa Morodenibig, a Kemetic High Priest, has become an initiation into the culture of my ancestors.
In today's high paced climate (often called microwave society), many of us would believe that anything that is ancient is old, outdated, and worse: lifeless. This can only be far from the truth. The knowledge of our ancestral lineage is most important to our spiritual growth in this world. This spiritual growth can only be achieved through the wisdom of the ancients.
Of the many lessons learned in my process of becoming, I often recall the lesson of what we call energy transfer. Modern scientists report that energy cannot be created or destroyed, it only changes form. This is what our ancestors were the first ones to identify us as human beings with a spirit: a limitless divine force which cannot be created or destroyed.
This is just one reason why our communication with our ancestors is important. We honor our ancestors daily. It is through them that we are in this world today, and it will be them who we will meet in the ancestral world tomorrow. Many of us have seen rituals to honor our ancestors during weddings, funerals, or even in movies such as "Coolie High", which gave honor and praise to those who transformed into the ancestral realm before us.
This honor to the ancestors keeps our bond alive as well as continues to enhance our knowledge and understanding of them.
As a youth, I can remember being called derogatory names that involved the word "African". This disdain for our own African culture negatively affects us and we do not look to the knowledge of our ancestors, or anything African, for guidance. This process of becoming has given me more reasons to identify myself as an African and to be proud of my ancestral lineage. The wisdom of my ancestors is not limited to story-telling and agriculture. Our ancestors were the people to develop the pyramids, science, and mathematics. With an ancestral lineage such as this, we should not be so quick to claim that the wisdom of our ancestors is outdated.
It is often asked: when one is lost and needs directions to find his/her way, would you rather ask a two year-old where you are going, or a seventy year-old? The answer is quite obvious.
However, when we base our spiritual life on information that comes from civilizations that resemble infancy, we are destined to find ourselves asking for directions to map our spiritual life again and again.
Just think if we would utilize all of the information our ancestors have mapped out for us! We would not be dealing with the ramifications of a people being lost and trying to find our way using flashlights while the sun is still shining bright. The wisdom of the ancients would not allow for such foolishness.
My initiation into the wisdom of my ancestors has taught me and my spiritual brothers and sisters that we are a people with a true ancestral family and how to employ the wisdom they have left for us. We must continue to learn from our ancestors and use the seventy-seven commandments to guide us through the vast amount of information we have gained. Our lineage to our ancestors is a blessing, and we all should increase our knowledge of the Kemetic language, philosophy, and spirituality.
